Position Available: Organist/Choirmaster (part time)
The Episcopal Church of All Saints, Indianapolis is hiring for the position of Organist / Choirmaster to begin August 1, 2018. All Saints is an Anglo-Catholic parish, and our worship is filled with the full repertoire of traditional chants, mass settings, and anthems that one would expect, though we are open to new music as well. We have a loyal and experienced volunteer choir, supplemented by two section leaders.
This part-time position averages 12-17 hours each week. The choir sings at the 10 am Solemn High Mass from St. Michaelmas Sunday in September through Trinity Sunday in June; repertoire for Mass includes chanted minor propers, chanted psalms (Gregorian and Anglican), two anthems, and leading congregational hymns. Choir rehearses Thursdays 7:00 – 9:00 pm from late August through Trinity Sunday and for an hour before Mass during the choir season. During the summer, the organist accompanies the hymns at Sunday Mass.
Other responsibilities: under supervision of the Rector, planning music (hymns and anthems) by season, including encouragement of congregational singing; recruiting new singers for the choir; meeting monthly with the staff and Rector; supervising staff singers; and scheduling additional musical support for Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience successfully serving the church; the skillful ability to play hymns, including improvisation; strong leadership qualities; strong organizational and conducting skills; and ability to work with other worship leaders, including the Rector and the Master of Ceremonies.
Salary: commensurate with education and experience. Honorarium for weddings and funerals, $275. Benefits: Four weeks vacation.
